Friday Five

1. Idea
Inspired by the show "Fixing Dinner" I am going to make an effort to make meals that please my Picky Daughter and my Carnivore Husband but I can eat too as a vegetarian. Some days that may be as simple as using Yves veggie ground round other days it may involve me making a variation for me. This experiment should be fun!

2. Mommy Guilt
Now I feel bad. Yesterday, Little Princess said she was "tired" and didn't want to go to school. The problem is every morning, she says she is "tired" or has a "bad tummy" or something similar and it is just her way of saying she doesn't want to go to preschool. Well yesterday was the same and I felt her and she had no fever, so I sent her in. 2 hours later, they call me and she is running a fever and is sent back home. I SENT HER IN SICK!!! I can only justify it by saying that I had no way of knowing that she really was sick this time. She napped and felt better afterwards.

3. Diet Ponderings

I am wondering if dieting and working to lose weight plays with your metabolism. I have been losing weight steadily (well except for the past few months I have been kinda plateaued/struggling) for over a year now. I have lost 60 lbs and I am wondering if doing this for that long is part of what makes my body react so strangely to the vegetarian diet. Hmmm . . . . it is something to wonder about. But in the end it doesn't matter. This battle between me and my body is on and I will shed this fat. I will NOT gain back the weight I worked so hard to lose. I am positive that counting points while doing the veggie thing will help and show results soon.

4. Kinderstart

Today is the day that we take Little Princess to Kinderstart. A program where in the year leading up to kindergarten, you take your child in to the school to prepare her and for her to meet the teachers and all those sorts of things. Little Princess missed the first one last month. And now yesterday, she was sick and running a fever. I am hoping that when she gets up today she will be feeling better. I will feel really bad if she has to miss again. It is only for about an hour I think, but I really want her to be ready for kindergarten next year. I worry about this stuff.

5. Prince Charming

I am loving that I have more energy and time for Prince Charming and Little Princess. Prince Charming has been so supportive and wonderful while I was stressed out and I love that we can be open to each other about whatever is on our minds. I love that we can still get talking and sit up half the night talking to each other. I love that he is a Galahad, needed to ride in on his white horse and save those he feels need his defending. It is kind of like he wears a sign like the statue of liberty, "Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free" except his is "Bring me your weak and downtrodden, your damsels in distress and those your huddled masses being tromped on by the people in charge".

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about Twisted Cinderella
  1. I have decided that for the next little while in an effort to get my weight figured out. I am going to be counting the points for the food I eat.
  2. I am still eating vegetarian and I have discovered a few things I eat have more points than I thought. So this may help.
  3. Little Princess did not want to go to preschool today. I hope that this is just a stage I am not facing a future of 13 years of sending her off to school unhappy.
  4. I don't understand her issue. She is happy when she comes home ever day. I can only think that it must be separation as she has been this way ever since I started work and I can only hope it will improve now that I am home
  5. I have become a real homebody since leaving work. I went out to the store yesterday and realized that I couldn't remember the last time I left the house.
  6. I am going out today too. So that is something. I am not unhappy with it. I tend to want to hibernate in the winter. Being home allows me to dig in and take care of my house and my family and hibernate until the sun comes back.
  7. This feels like the longest winter ever. There is just so much snow and yucky stuff out there.
  8. I watched that movie, "The Break-up" yesterday. I wasn't that impressed. I didn't like the ending of the movie at all. But I do love Jennifer Anniston. I have her movie, "Picture Perfect" that I really enjoy.
  9. I love that when Prince Charming warned me that his next paycheque was going to be smaller, I could look at him and say, "That's okay, our bills are paid and we have lots of groceries. We will be fine."
  10. I have spent so many years bordering on completely broke and having just enough food to get from paycheque to paycheque, that having food in the house makes me feel safe and secure and happy.
  11. Being home is also allowing me to concentrate more on getting Little Princess to eat. I am thrilled that for the last two nights, she has eaten the same supper as her father!
  12. I watch this show, "Just One Bite" which has great ideas and tips for picky kids that I take away and try with Little Princess.
  • I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day with the person they love. Little Princess and I made two giant heart shaped cookies with I love you written in chocolate chips on them. One was hers and one was for Prince Charming. It was cute and fun.

Happy Valentines Day!

Scroll down for Wordless Wednesday post!

Valentines Day

It is valentines day! Prince Charming bought me a present a couple of weeks ago, which I knew about but wasn't allowed to see. He put it at the end of the couch and left it there in a bag all this time. I would move it to clean and then put it back never once looking inside or shaking it to see what it was. Are you impressed with me? I am! Here is what he bought me:

I LOVE it! It plays "Wild Thing" when you press the little button on the stem. It really did make me laugh. It is so us, romantic, quirky, silly and fun.

Now Prince Charming is off to school and he tells me he will be late so don't worry about him. Little Princess is off to school and she complained the whole way until she found out they were going to have a party. Life continues as normal.

I am thinking of doing a little baking and making something kind of special tonight for him and Little Princess. It will just be something that won't ruin if it has to wait for him that's all. Maybe a nice supper and some heart shaped cookies or something similar.

For fun

This is just so much fun! You have to check to this out. LOL Cooking and this one is just impressive!

Diet and exercise

I had a rough day yesterday. I had a headache and did no exercising AT ALL! And then last night, I was sitting around the living room and I was STARVING! I couldn't fill myself up. I was craving chocolate and in my quest to fill the hole, I ate too much. It was all fairly healthy, but I have to admit that the last thing I ate was not vegan. It had milk solids in it. It did fill me up however. But that is the first time since I went vegetarian that I have been attacked that way. I am going to have to be better prepared to combat that kind of night. Maybe preparing something on plan and keeping it in the freezer to have in case of emergencies?

I have to say, my weight has been a real issue since going vegetarian. I am trying not to panic, I mean I am really really trying to eat well, and beyone yesterdays craving fest (which was the first since I have gone veg) I have been doing well. I don't know why my body is reacting this way. I don't know why weight is such an issue. The only thing I can think of is that I went from Atkins directly to vegetarian. My body must be reacting to the sudden influx of whole grains and such. I am not giving up on this way of life. I like how I feel. I just need to find a way to come to some sort of agreement with my body!

I think I am going to use Sparkpeople to help plan my meals and snacks for a little while to see if that helps.

On the upside, I did make a yummy stew with veggie broth, 3 small potatoes, 2 sweet potatoes, 1 small squash, 2 parsnips, 1 carrot, 1 onion, a few mushrooms and 1 cup of cooked lentils. It was really thick and creamy and yummy and I have lots of leftovers as well.
