Big Scare!

Any mom of an autistic child who has elopement tendencies knows my biggest fear.  My baby boy getting out the front door and something horrible happening.  Today the worst possibility flashed through my mind. I was upstairs cleaning Little Prince's room and one of the little girls left the door unlocked and Little Prince got out!  He ran full speed across the highway in front of our house, was almost hit by a car, popped in through someone's door, darted out again and into the woods.  Luckily as me and all the girls frantically ran barefoot across the highway to find where he had run, someone across the road corralled him, could tell he was autistic and met us with him in their arms.  I was hysterical, as was Princess Magpie.  They told me to calm down, he was okay, and to go home and cuddle my boy.  This scared me guys!

Fun!!

I am home today, enjoying my kids and cleaning the house.  Little Prince particularly enjoyed our phone time.

Results

Little Prince had an awful night last night.  Neither one of us got much sleep last night.  He was noisy, cranky, and restless.  I can only assume that it was a side effect of his horrible therapy appointment.  He hasn't got another appointment for two weeks.  I hope his next one goes better.

Today, I am dragging my sleepy hiney around trying to get things done.  I did do some baking for the kids before they got up.  Princess Magpie caught me in the act and was happy to help with cleaning the bowl (or licking it out anyway LOL)

Well That Could Have Gone Better

I am becoming concerned with Little Prince's relationship with his new therapist.  He doesn't like her.  He doesn't like therapy with her.  He gets frustrated.  By the time we are finished, he is angry and upset.  He plunks himself on the floor with a toy and his back to the therapist and screams when she comes near him.  I honestly feel like too much of this and he starting to regress in regards to his therapy.

I Have A Trick

It is hard to take pictures of Little Prince.  He is man on the move and is usually rocking hard when he is happy.  So all his pictures of him they tend to be blurry and oddly angled.

But I have a trick that usually allows me to get one or two mildly decent pictures of my active little man.  He and I play a game where I will sing part of a song which I invented and he sings the next part.  He is so used to this game that he will stop moving for a flash second to look at me in anticipation of the next line.  If I am quick with the camera while we play this singing game, I can catch one or two less blurry pictures (especially if you ignore the blurry hands LOL).

And a little creative cropping gets me something I really like.

Milestone

Today I bit the bullet and got rid of my baby boy's high chair.  He hasn't eaten in it for a while now.  I am so proud of him for learning to eat without his chair!  So today my baby boy officially outgrew his high chair.  Right now, he sits in a rocking chair and eats but I have hope that maybe one day I can get him to sit at a table to eat.  For now though . . . I will take this milestone as a victory.

My boy went from eating here only . . .

To eating with comfort and freedom here . . .

BLUE!

Autism plays a large role in our home.  It effects everything from how we decorate to our schedule and how we shop.  Autism has become a part of most everything in our life.  It isn't really a bad thing, it just requires awareness and understanding.  And let's be honest I happen to really love the little (and not so little) people that come with that Autistic diagnosis.

That being said, we definitely "Light It Up Blue" for Autism Awareness Day every April 2nd.

One Thing!!

Well we had a short while of spring weather and then it got cold again!!  I feel like winter is here again!!

We had a quiet day at home, tidying, organizing, and puttering.  Nothing too exciting.

I did make fresh drop biscuits to go with the leftover stew for the kids which they enjoyed.

Oh!!  One good thing . . . Little Prince put a few words together in a meaningful way that wasn't copying television!!!  He was given a colorful snack to eat and pointed at it in surprise and said, "Red on it!"  This was a whole thought put in words!!!

Windows

Little Prince loves windows.  He spends so much looking out the windows and watching the world go by.  I, for my part, love the way the windows light his face.

That Went Well

Little Prince had an appointment with the Autism specialist for the Annapolis Valley and it went pretty well.  He was EVERYWHERE and at EVERYTHING  in her office but he was happy and sweet and didn't throw any tantrums so I am happy.  I left the office excited by the way we plan to proceed and that was kind of wonderful too.

Poor Baby

My boy has needed a haircut for a while but he hates them so much that I have been putting it off.  But today while he was having a snack, I decided it had to be done.  I know his autism makes him sensitive to haircuts and I hate to make him so upset but I bit the bullet and did it.  I have to say, it was pretty awful and he screamed the whole time but he does look better.  I always go pretty short so that doesn't have to be done as often and so I don't have to brush it which he also hates.

Here he is before:

Here he is after  (ignore his glassy eyes from crying):

Little Prince

Little Prince hasn't been enjoying the playroom room since we moved here.  He takes great joy in going through all the toys, he loves running and crashing from wall to wall, but most of all he loves taking a toy or book and rocking out in his favorite chair.  He is a boy in motion the whole time he is in there.

The only thing is, eventually, after a couple of hours, he gets tired of the noise from his sisters and cries to go to bed.  Poor baby.

Fine Form

After a VERY  long day, I am finished shopping for Christmas.  Our budget is tight and Prince Charming and I are basically shopping just for the kids.  But that being said I think we did well for them.   They are going to have a great Christmas and that makes me so very happy.

On another note, Little Prince climbed the safety gate THREE times last night!  The last time he fell down the stairs.  My poor boy has a hard time with balance.   Luckily he is okay.   He also demolished the storage area again!  He was in fine form last night LOL.  Luckily I think have found some solutions to keep safe.

On My Toes

So very tired.  For two days in a row Little Prince got me up between 5 and 6 in the morning. And it is making for LONG days.  He has been in fine form climbing safety gates and opening locked doors!  He completely demolished the storage area!!!  I got it fixed but he is definitely keeping me on my toes.

Good thing he is a cutie-pie.
