Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen things about my day:
  1. Princess Magpie is still not going potty on the potty.  She is waiting until bedtime and using her pull-up.  She has tremendous bladder control, I have to tell you.  I am giving her time.  She likes the potty, but one of the things about her that makes me wonder if she is on the autism scale like her sister is her insistence on routine.  She is convinced that a pull-up or a diaper is where that goes.  I am working on making her feel better and letting her spend as much time as she likes on the potty and hopefully she will go one day by accident and then I can celebrate and she can get it.
  2. On the other hand, Princess Snifflefritz has seen us working with (just turned 4 year old) Princess Magpie and asked us for underwear and asked if she could go potty too.  I figured she is only 2 1/2 but what the heck, I gave it a shot and she DID IT!!!  First try she did it!!  She doesn't have the bladder control her sister does but she has managed to go every time she sat on the potty.
  3. I made a roast chicken dinner for my family.  With my guest still staying with us, I had to make 2 chickens but it was a HUGE hit and everybody loved it.  It was worth heating up the house.
  4. I get a kick out of seeing all the cloth diapers on the clothes line.  It makes me happy to see them out there every morning shining in the morning sun.
  5. I love my guest, he is great and so helpful with Little Prince but I do miss alone time with Prince Charming.  I miss our evenings alone watching our shows and chatting.
  6. I LOVE this house.  I wish we could stay here forever!  But I know that at some point Little Prince is going to need a bedroom and that sucks.  I didn't know that he wouldn't be able to share with the little girls because Princess Magpie will be at least five or six by the time he is old enough to be in the room with them.   And while Princess Snifflefritz would be young enough, Princess Magpie likes sharing with her little sister and Princess Belle likes having a room of her own.
  7. I am glad to be putting my diet back on the list again.  I need to do that.  I even went out and bought scales.
  8. I bought some earings at the dollar store!  I know it is silly but they look nice, I won't be heartbroken if they break and I LIKE wearing earings again.
  9. There is a nice kid in our neighbourhood.  He has said to Princess Belle that he doesn't care if she is a little odd he knows she has autism and that isn't her fault so he likes her anyway.  He isn't judgmental and it makes my life easier to see her happier.
  10. I did discover that the one little hoodlum that loves to make her miserable, loves to make a LOT of kids miserable.  I think he actually likes Princess Belle but he is only 8 and doesn't know how to show it, so he makes her feel bad.
  11. I am still on top of housework in this place.  Or at least I am better on top of it than I was elsewhere.  I have off days when the kids have tag-teamed me all night and I haven't had much sleep but for the most part an organized house is easier to keep tidy.
  12. I put pictures up on the walls!!  It looks great.
  13. I can't wait to get a stud-finder so that we can hang the curtains.

Thirteen things that are on my shopping list to get at some point in the near future:
  1. a washer that actually works without creating a swimming pool in my laundry room
  2. a dryer that actually turns on
  3. a fridge that actually keeps things cold
  4. a vehicle to get me to the nearest shopping mall (45 minutes away)
  5. gas and insurance for that lovely car I want to get!
  6. next years curriculum (from Abeka)
  7. a dvd player that doesn't make weird noises and smoke when you use it (before you send the fire department, we have actually stopped using that dvd player)
  8. an ink cartridge for my printer that actually works
  9. a big pack of paper to print on with that ink
  10. shoes for me that have no holes (I never buy for me, my kids have three dressers of clothes each and footwear spilling out of the coat closet, I don't have shoes. Go figure!)
  11. a camera that isn't held together by a rubber band
  12. a sandbox for my kids to play in now that I have this lovely big back yard
  13. a wading pool for that same back yard (as opposed to putting in someone else's backyard LOL)!

Thursday Thirteen

I thought this would be a good post to post 13 random thoughts that are running through my sleep-deprived, scattered, brain.
  1. I got groceries today. It is such a pain in the butt to have to pay someone to take me into town to get groceries. I can't wait until we have a car so I can go on my own. I hate having the driver follow me through the store. I hate that he is waiting for me. I hate that I feel like I am wasting his time. I keep rushing and forgetting things. UGH
  2. On the upside, I got an ink cartridge today so now I get to print off new and fun things to supplement our homeschooling. It is so fun! I can't wait to prepare next weeks lessons!
  3. I have heard that Abeka is providing free shipping for the month of April! I wonder if that applies to Canada too? I am going to look into it.
  4. My dryer is broken. What a pain in my butt!! So I am going to try to budget this month for a new used dryer and the curriculum for next year.
  5. I wish I could snap my fingers and this big butt of mine would be back to a more normal shape. It would be lovely to have all this excess weight gone. It would be lovely to have some idea of how to get there.
  6. I don't remember the last really good nights sleep I had. Princess Snifflefritz has this habit of waking up at 4 am and then every 1/2 hour to 1 hour after that. All night long. And I got to bed at around midnight so I can have some evening time with Prince Charming and so that I can go to sleep after she is actually sleeping for the night. I feed her at about midnight and she wakes up 4 hours later.
  7. I actually found out that someone relatively near me is homeschooling too! We are talking via e-mail and it is kind of nice to know that I am not alone in this.
  8. I am going to be joining CHENL soon and I am going to their conference in May. It will be so good to see other homeschoolers face to face.
  9. I can see vast improvements in Princess Belle lately. She is so much more relaxed and that has enabled her to come alot further. I know I am doing the right thing for her.
  10. Princess Magpie has the cuteness level up on max lately. She is a giggly, loving, sweet bundle of cuteness. I LOVE this age.
  11. Princess Snifflefritz is sweet and smiley. I really enjoy her sparkly eyes. I do wish she would eat more at once so she would eat less often, but I am sure that will come with time.
  12. I am the kind of mom who puts her family first at all times. When we go shopping, my mental dialogue goes like this, "I'll get this for the kids. I'll get this for the kids. Prince Charming would like this. I'll get this for the kids. This is good for the family as well as me, so I'll get it. I'll get this for the kids. I was going to get this for me, but we really can't afford it, so I will get it next time. That means that I have a long list of things I need but never get; shoes, clothes, bra, vegetarian foods so I feel better, etc.
  13. I love to do research. I love to learn new things. I am glad that homeschooling allows me to do research on a regular basis and then share it with my girl. It is fun for her and she learns fun and interesting things.

Thursday Thirteen

It was a nice day the other day and we decided it was a good idea to get everyone out of hte house. I was inspired by this to decide that Princess Belle and I are going to be working on a Nature Notebook as part of our homeschooling. She was really excited by the idea. We also decided that we will be going on a picnic here in the near future. So here are thirteen pictures of our first walk of Spring:

Thursday Thirteen #84 - Thankful Thursday

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things that Twisted Cinderella is grateful for.

I thought that this felt like a good day to share some of the things I am thankful for. So here are some of the blessings in my life that I am forever grateful for (in the order they popped into my head):
  1. Prince Charming - I can honestly say that without him, the rest of my blessings would not exist. He is loving, fun, caring, honerable, my greatest defender and my closest friend.
  2. Princess Belle - she made me a mom. Before she came into this world, I had spent my whole life under the impression I was unable to be a mother at all. She changed my world and showed me just the depth of feeling true love brings.
  3. Princess Magpie - after five long years of trying, she came into our world with a bright sunny smile and has kept us smiling ever since. She is pure sunshine and happiness and having her convinced us to tempt fate and try our hands at being parents for a third time.
  4. Our New Arrival - coming in January to a hospital near here. This baby was hoped for, and prayed for and we never expected this little one to decide to make an appearance as soon as this. We are just so blessed that we didn't have to wait another five years!
  5. Our neighbourhood - like any neighbourhood, there are good things and bad things, but I know living here that I will never be alone. In the case of an emergency, I always know that there are quite a number of people here that I can turn to. There are community outings, and celebrations. There is a lovely community center with so many wonderful programs. And thanks to this neighbourhood, I even have my very first garden ever!
  6. Grandma Great - Not only did she bring the love of my life into this world, but she also gave me her love. She became another mother to me, one whom I could turn to for anything and who loves me unconditionally.
  7. Notsosnowwhite - She is a listening ear, a dieting companion, a big brother companion, a friend and the sister I have by choice instead of simply by chance of birth.
  8. My blogging friends - they are a source of amusement, information, support and friendship. I have met so many wonderful friends in all these years of blogging and I am so lucky to know each and every one of you.
  9. My parenting group - There is something wonderful about this group of women. We came together as new moms and grew together as friends.
  10. The health care system here - for all it has its short comings, it has saved the life of my grandmother, my best friend and my father. It is working to diagnose and me understand my beautiful daughter, Princess Belle.
  11. The Summer Sun - I have always had troubles in the winter when the sun is so seldom seen. But in the summer, when the sun warms my skin, I can feel my soul sing. It lightens my spirit and makes me feels gloriously happy. It only gets better when I get to enjoy it with my family.
  12. The Homeschooling Community - They turned the nightmare that public schooling was to me into an opportunity to love my daughter more my teaching her myself and to learn so much more about her and how her mind works. I am so glad we get to go on this journey together.
  13. Life - I am so grateful today for every aspect of my life, my family, my children, the life growing inside me, the friends that surround me, and all the joys yet to come. I am truly blessed.

Thursday Thirteen #83

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things that are on Twisted Cinderella's mind today
  1. Princess Magpie pulled herself up for the first time. She did it in her crib and fell out!!!! So now Prince Charming has to move her mattress down.
  2. It scared her and it took a long time to get her to calm down. I have to admit, I bribed her with Big Comfy Couch and cookies. I just needed her be her happy self and she didn't seem to be hurt, just upset.
  3. I already had to move her crib and dresser because she was pulling things out of and off of the dresser and pulling them into her crib. LOL, my little monkey.
  4. A friend dropped by with about a dozen boxes that were left behind in my last move, 3 YEARS ago! It was fun going through them and finding out books, yearbooks, other other goodies.
  5. I found bunches of poetry and things I wrote when I was in high school. It was fun to read them and share them with Prince Charming.
  6. We found out our cable/internet/phone bill has been messed up for a few months. We called them and they are going to take $120 off our bill!!!
  7. I am getting a few groceries and I plan on getting some goodies to make a pg girl happy! I can't wait.
  8. I am thinking of having the new baby share a room with Princess Magpie. Has anyone out there ever had a baby and a toddler in the same room? How did it work out for you?
  9. Princess Magpie got me up early early and I was tired. So, when she went for a nap, I decided to go for one too. We both slept for THREE HOURS!!! boy did I feel rested afterwards.
  10. Princess Belle has been having great fun playing outside lately. She has a new friend down the road. I love that his mother knows that she has adhd, understands how she is and still enjoys having her come over. I like that I can relax about it.
  11. I have been watching old episodes of The Outer Limits lately. It is fun to see which stars are in the episodes.
  12. I can't wait until Big Brother comes on for this year! I get so addicted to that show.
  13. I am STILL anxiously awaiting approval to homeschool Princess Belle this coming year! I am buying her curriculum anyway next month.

Thursday Thirteen #82

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things that Twisted Cinderella has found for doing schoolwork with ADHD children
  1. Create short lessons, do each thing in short increments. This will help to hold your child's attention.
  2. Look for some creative ways to keep your child interested (I have created a game where each bit of homework is in a separate stations and when she is done one, she moves on to the next station and at the end there is a prize. Something small like listen to a song on the computer, play with her moonsand, bake with mommy etc.)
  3. Movement while working helps them to concentrate. Perhaps jumping up and down on a trampoline reciting math facts or saying their lines for a play while walking across a balance beam at the park. Keep it fun!
  4. Have patience, and don't worry, it will get easier for you do this if you give it time.
  5. Help your child to learn to be organized. Lack of organizational skills is a characteristic of ADHD.
  6. Rewards and incentives are a great way to motivate.
  7. Engage the child and make sure she is happy, content and satisfied, that she has had an opportunity to go to the bathroom, to have something to eat, and have some fun as well.
  8. Hardest things first: start with the subject(s) the child dislikes the most, starting with the most difficult things at the start is a good idea because this is when the childs attention and focus will be at a peak. It also means that if towards the end the child has a subject they enjoy, then they will see that as a "treat".
  9. Establish daily routines to handle morning activities, schoolwork and bedtime. Routines help make sense of the chaos that uncontrolled ADHD can cause.
  10. Know the triggers. Know what things can make ADHD worse for you or your child. For some it may be eating a breakfast high in sugar.
  11. Stress can aggravate ADHD. Find ways to relieve stress and relax.
  12. Focus on the Positive. ADHD can make it difficult to concentrate or even finish the simplest tasks. The very traits that make ADHD a problem can also be useful. The ability to multi-task has be a great asset as a adult.
  13. Make learning fun!: The usual implements and methods of learning wont work with a child with ADHD, you have to engage them and make learning an enjoyable and creative process.

Thursday Thirteen #79

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things Twisted Cinderella has NOT done no matter what my kids and dog might tell you. LOL

  1. I absolutely DID NOT wake up with a headache this morning, get terrible gluten cravings, and being alone in the house with the baby (who can tell no one) go into the snack cupboard and pull out not one but three gluten-filled snacks and pig out. Not Me!
  2. After not eating such snacks, I absolutely DID NOT put the packages in the garbage in hopes that no one would see my moment of weakness.
  3. And after not hiding the evidence, I did not sit there paying the digestive price, thinking to myself, that was so worth it.
  4. Sitting here in the living room, typing this out, I DID NOT decide that maybe it would be better not to have temptation in our house when I am sick.
  5. The other Night, when Princess Belle was being stubborn about eating her supper, I DID NOT lose patience and actually argue with my 7 year old daughter about eating that last tiny little bit of chicken. I am a picture of patience all the time and never lose it with my daughter when she doesn't deserve it.
  6. After getting a call from the school yet again about Princess Belle's lack of concentration and her moody behavior, I absolutely DID NOT become frustrated with the wait for her ADHD testing and decide to take matters into my own hand and decide to try to adjust her diet to help her.
  7. When putting Princess Maggie to bed, and hearing her fuss I absolutely DID NOT set a timer for five minutes so that I could comfort myself saying, "it is only for five minutes and then you can go get her" so that she would learn to calm herself.
  8. When she cried, I absolutely DID NOT sit there and cry too.
  9. I DID NOT talk to the dog and baby and explain to them that mommy needs more than a few hours in a row. I am fully aware that they can't talk. I am a rational human being who can survive on as little sleep as possible and still be bright eyed and chipper in the morning.
  10. I absolutely DID NOT tell Princess Belle that I was tired of fighting over combing her hair in the morning and that I was getting it cut. I am the picture of Mary Poppins patience and can sing her a spoonful of sugar to make it easier to comb her long beautiful hair.
  11. After NOT telling her I was going to cut her hair, I DID NOT bribe her by telling her I would get the same cut so that if anyone said she looked like a boy, she could say she looked like me instead.
  12. I DID NOT sit in my living room in a headache-filled haze, look at the dog hair in the corners of my living room and think, "Screw it, I can't face it today." and then ignore it as it yelled at me all day about what a bad housekeeper I am.
  13. I am NOT delusional and my house DOES NOT judge me about much worse a housekeeper I am than my mother was and how she would be appalled at the state of my house on my best day. I absolutely DO NOT feel that I should be sweeping my floor three times a day every day. I absolutely DO NOT feel guilty that my bed doesn't get made every day and that Prince Belle's room is a permanent state of disaster.

Thursday Thirteen #77- Honest Scrap

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things about Twisted Cinderella

I have been given an award by The Burkes The recipient of this award to list 10 honest things about themselves -- make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep. And since this is Thursday, maybe I will try to name 13! I have to say, I have been blogging for 5 years this month, I have shared most things so this is a challenge.
  1. I love to do anything creative. The computer is truly my biggest creative outlet. I use it to do things like scrapbooking, blogging, and creating layouts and such.
  2. I am reforming clean freak living in a messy house. I am married to a man who is the opposite of a clean freak, (we won't discuss what that makes him). My daughter is just like her father. I am fighting some sort of exhaustion (I am thinking diet related). So as a result I am trying to learn to let things go. I remind myself that if they are messy, they don't sit in judgment of me and how messy my house is. I have to learn to cut myself a break.
  3. I am the anti-feminist I have no issued with feminism and feminists, I just live my life in the way they are trying to get away from as far as I can tell. My biggest dream was always to be a housewife, being barefoot in the kitchen with kids tugging at my dress sounds like a dream to me. I have done the whole liberated working woman thing, but it left me feeling unfulfilled and stressed. This is so much better for me.
  4. I tend to change my look on the spur of the moment. It makes me feel good to have a change in my look. I have been known to leave the house with long blond hair and come home with short red hair.
  5. I am cutting Princess Belle's hair again sometime soon. She HATES having it done, she cries. Having it halfway long and halfway short means it gets in her face when she eats and is a disaster so I have warned her that it is getting short someday soon.
  6. I am a people pleaser. I hate to have people not like me, I feel bad when they don't. I am trying to learn to be more like Prince Charming and let it run like water off my back. I am learning, but it doesn't come naturally.
  7. I like to let things go a lot. If it is not a big deal, I don't want to make a big deal out of it. If someone is doing something in their yard that bugs me, I will just let it go. I don't care if you paint your house, mow your lawn, shovel your snow, park your car on the street, or put your garbage in the front of my house. If it doesn't effect me in some way, I am not going to hold it against you, I really do have more important things to do (like watching paint dry or listening to the grass grow). I just smile, and greet you and talk to you with no ill will at all. Life it too short to make problems where none exist.
  8. I have been watching my food intake and the way I feel when I eat them and I think I have issues with Gluten and Dairy. I have no idea what to do with that and how to eat that way. It feels a little like learning a foreign language. What do I do with this and how does it interplay with my trying to lose weight?
  9. I love to research things. I love the challenge of trying to find out all I can about a subject that interests me. I do it now and I remember doing it as a kid in our school library. The library had a filing system with folders filled with little bits of information about all sorts of subjects, I would take them out and go through the files. I would wander through the non-fiction aisles of the library looking at books and seeing what they had that interested me on that day. Now I wander the internet aisles and see what information I can find.
  10. Since I had the baby, I don't like how my body looks. Nothing fits me right and I refuse to buy clothes to fit this bigger body. It is only temporary and why waste money on a temporary situation. As a result I a very limited wardrobe and have been known to spend all day with my girls in my jammies. I am trying to get out of that habit though.
  11. I love music. Music is the backdrop to most of my life. I can remember "The Sesame Street and Elivis ablum years" and the "Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi" years (although truthfully the Bon Jovi years never ended). I can remember country music with my daddy and rock music with my friends and now it is once again in the Sesame street years. Just the first few notes of a song have the power to change my mood.
  12. I love all things historical but I have a great love for old books. I love the look of them, the feel of them and reading them. I love to know that 100 years ago someone else held this same book in their hand.
  13. I am completely unable to throw away an old magazine. But then I am also likely to drag old magazines up out of the basement and read them every once in a while when the mood strikes.

Thirteen Things Twisted Cinderella wants to change
  1. I want to lose weight. I have done this before and I know I am at an all-time high, but I am determined to do this.
  2. That brings us to the next thing, one of the reasons I want to lose weight (beyond the obvious I feel yucky and fat) is that I have PCOS and I want to have another baby.
  3. I want to organize my basement. I want to finish one side of it so that it can be used as a playroom or something similar.
  4. I want to fix the fence in our backyard so that I can let the puppy run around out there without nosy neighbours complaining.
  5. I want to organize and clean my bedroom.
  6. I want to attack mount laundry. I also want to get a few more laundry baskets to improve my method of attack and organization.
  7. I want to try to get some semblance of organization in Princess Belle's room and have it last longer than the time it takes me to leave the room.
  8. I want to feel healthy. I want to have no aches, pains, headaches, or any other such silliness.
  9. I want to get more active, starting exercise videos again, walking with the baby once the weather gets warmer.
  10. I want to keep on top of the housework better. I am doing just the bare minimum lately and I hate it.
  11. I want to spend more time just having fun with Princess Belle. She is such a fun and funny girl, she deserves to have more time with me really paying attention to only her and so does her baby sister.
  12. I want to take better care of myself, doing myself up once in a while, take better care of myself.
  13. I want to be less tired so that I can attack all of these things.

Thirteen Things about Twisted Cinderella

Once upon a time, I was interesting. I had opinions and I was funny. These days my witty side has been replaced by my mommy side. Here are some things that I noticed have changed in recent years:
  1. Don't ask me my opinions on current events, but I can talk your ear off on baby bottles.
  2. Instead of funky cool jeans and long dangly earings, I spend most days in sweats with naked ears. If I wear fake pearls in my ears, it is a good day.
  3. Instead of feta cheese, I buy cheese strings.
  4. My antique books are packed in basements and baby safe movies are in their place.
  5. Instead of being picky about the inches between the vases on my entertainment center, I now am happy just to keep the clutter on top to one corner.
  6. High heeled shoes have been replaced with push-on keds.
  7. Instead of a closet full of dresses and skirts, I have a laundry basket filled with clean comfy clothes that hasn't made its way to my dresser yet.
  8. My goal isn't to keep my house spotless, my goal is to keep it comfortable.
  9. Instead of buying myself a rose to put on my table, I put dandelions on my windowsill.
  10. Once completely up to date on all the latest dances and music, I have now turned into that crotchety old lady who asks "Who is making that noise?" When I mention one of my favorite singers, my daughter asks, "Who is that mommy?"
  11. My daughter talks about things that will happen when she is old like me.
  12. My knees now make more noise than the popcorn I stood up to make.
  13. I lose complete track of my thoughts as I stop whatever I am doing fifty times to answer little questions, kiss little boo-boos, read little stories, change little diapers, wipe little noses, and get great big hugs.
