Diet
I am doing really well on the keto diet. I am never hungry, I don't have cravings and the weight has finally started coming off again. I keep it simple as that makes it easier for me and my bulletproof coffee is the BEST way to start the day. I am doing so well that Prince Charming is considering joining me. I even have plan for maintenance when I get to my goal.

Crazy.
I was in the grocery store today and they were discussing more bear sightings. A local business has a nuisance bear and a car grazed a bear cub. This is crazy.

Dot Art
We are continuing on with some homeschooling all summer and today we finished our lessons by learning about aboriginal dot art. The kids thought it was beautiful. It was their favorite craft project for a while.

From A Distance
It is funny how things are so different when viewed from a distance or as a theoretical concept. All my life, I have loved the idea little cabins in the woods and farmhouses in the country. Pictures of big, beautiful, country getaways and cozy cottage were my ideal.
But for the last two years, I have been living the reality. And having grown up in actual towns, I have learned something . . . the country includes nature. Shocking, I know! And nature isn't always pretty and pleasant.
Nature and farms bring rodents, insects, and animals. Some animals are pretty to look at (like the deer) but some animals are terrifying (like skunks and black bears). And don't let's even discuss the wide variety of insects you can discover when you are feet from the woods (ticks, fleas, and flies were invented here I swear!)
And the funny thing about living in the country is that you can sit on your front step drinking coffee or tea for years, you won't meet a neighbor. You will go back inside alone except for the dozens of ticks who are now calling you home. And if our car breaks down, we are completely sunk! We have to drive for everything.
Living here has ruined those pictures I used to like so much. Now I see a house in the woods and I see a house infested with vermin and invaded by wild animals. It isn't idyllic in my head anymore.
Now I long for people and friendly chats with my neighbors. I long for corner stores and coffee shops. I long for the freedom to let my kids play in the yard without worrying about them becoming lunch for something wandering around out there. I long for family and friends to be there to lean on when being a homeschooling, autism mom of four becomes a little too stressful. Sometimes being so far away from everything and everyone I know is tough.

Games
It is fun to watch my kids play games. I like to hear their laughter and the way they enjoy each other.

Scary
I was talking to neighbors and there have been more bear sightings. Bears in people's yards, in people's garbage, bears and bear cubs in people's driveways. It is really scary! I check for bears before I leave the house.

So Sweet
My little girls are always telling me that I should open up a restaurant. They have even come up with a name for it. Today when I got up, I saw this in our window. I laughed out loud.
They were so funny and cute, I made one of their favorites, taco salad bar for supper.

Perfect
Prince Charming and I went to Yarmouth today. It was a perfect day. So pretty and nice. I took him to a movie for Father's Day and then brought groceries and treats home to the kids.
We stopped at our favorite store down there that always had signs mixed up. It makes me smile every time I visit.

Good and Bad
The kids and I have been studying Australia. I love Australia and it is always fun to learn more about it. Today we learned about the marsupials that live there. The girls were surprised to learn of the variety of marsupials that exist.
We haven't seen our bear friend in the last few days but several of our neighbors have had bears in their yards too. That is pretty scary. We also have a terrible tick infestation right in our yard!!!! Every time any one walks into our yard, they come out with several ticks on them!!! It is awful. I HATE that I can't let my kids go outside because I am afraid something (tick or bear) will munch on them!! This sucks!

Cleaning
I have spent today cleaning toys. Loads and loads of stuffies in the washer, plastics in the dishwasher and electronics by hand. I am almost through the stuffies and will have those done today. I will continue with the rest tomorrow.

Fun Times
Prince Charming is gone to work for four days. I get to be alone with the kids when a big black bear keeps coming to visit our back yard. Fun times.

Sunday Strolls
It is a beautiful day here in the Annapolis Valley. I have to say, aside from the ticks and bears, this is a completely lovely place.
