It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . .

I woke up this morning and saw this mess outside my window:

After a few hours, I looked outside and everything looked so clean and fresh and the Christmas decorations across the road look so cheerful with the snow frosting them that it did make me smile a little bit. Here is what was there by lunchtime.

Our Saturday

We had a good day today. I woke up still sick and expected to take it easy and I did for the most part, but all in all, it was still a good day.

First there was a Christmas Games Day up at our community center. Prince Charming took Princess Belle and she had fun. She made me a beautiful card all by herself and I love it! Afterwards, she went outside to play with her friends for a while.

When she came in, we had supper. I didn't feel up to cooking, so I took some frozen pizzas out of the freezer for supper. They were actually pretty good. Later, we all sat down to watch Jamanji together. While it was on, I got up and made a treat. I cut up a banana and split it between all the bowls. Then I crushed some Nilla Wafers and rolled a scoop of ice cream each in it. I placed that in the bowl on top of the banana and then drizzelled it with some chocolate sauce. It was a big hit with everyone.

It wasn't an exciting day, but it was a nice family day. And I got to take it pretty easy too.

Friday Five

Well it is Friday again and I am here to share my stuff.
  1. I am stuck with this darned flu!! Now I have coughed so much that my head is pounding too. It sucks to be the sick mommy.
  2. Prince Charming and I met with Princess Belle's Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, Principal, and Vice Principal for a progress update on her year.
  3. They all agree that she is pleasant, hard-working, and wants to please but she has a very short attention span and has some concerns which make it difficult for her. We came up with a plan where among other things: she gets extra time to finish assignments, she gets more reminders, she gets supervised breaks when she needs them, and some help in learning to focus her attention.
  4. I was thinking that I will probably be starting Princess Mag-pie on cereal when she is five months. I was going to wait until she is six months but she is soooo big and drinks sooo much formula and seems like she is needing something more.
  5. Princess Mag-pie is such a mommy's girl and now it seems she is starting to be upset if we are out and about and she can't see where I am. The truth is I don't really mind it. The way I figure it, if she is like her sister, she will be a mommy's girl now and daddy's girl later. I had better soak it all up now.

Thursday Thirteen #74

Thirteen Things about Twisted Cinderella

Once upon a time, I was interesting. I had opinions and I was funny. These days my witty side has been replaced by my mommy side. Here are some things that I noticed have changed in recent years:
  1. Don't ask me my opinions on current events, but I can talk your ear off on baby bottles.
  2. Instead of funky cool jeans and long dangly earings, I spend most days in sweats with naked ears. If I wear fake pearls in my ears, it is a good day.
  3. Instead of feta cheese, I buy cheese strings.
  4. My antique books are packed in basements and baby safe movies are in their place.
  5. Instead of being picky about the inches between the vases on my entertainment center, I now am happy just to keep the clutter on top to one corner.
  6. High heeled shoes have been replaced with push-on keds.
  7. Instead of a closet full of dresses and skirts, I have a laundry basket filled with clean comfy clothes that hasn't made its way to my dresser yet.
  8. My goal isn't to keep my house spotless, my goal is to keep it comfortable.
  9. Instead of buying myself a rose to put on my table, I put dandelions on my windowsill.
  10. Once completely up to date on all the latest dances and music, I have now turned into that crotchety old lady who asks "Who is making that noise?" When I mention one of my favorite singers, my daughter asks, "Who is that mommy?"
  11. My daughter talks about things that will happen when she is old like me.
  12. My knees now make more noise than the popcorn I stood up to make.
  13. I lose complete track of my thoughts as I stop whatever I am doing fifty times to answer little questions, kiss little boo-boos, read little stories, change little diapers, wipe little noses, and get great big hugs.

Frustrating

It is so completely frustrating when I am trying to get things done and I can't find something. I went to make some buns last night to go with supper and I couldn't find my muffin tin! I looked and looked but I have no idea where I hid it. Here I was sick and trying to do something anyway and I couldn't find my darned tins!!

On the upside, I am still sick but I do feel a little better than yesterday, so I can see an end in sight. Thank goodness.

I am also proud to announce that I can see an end to Mount Laundry too. I mean , I will never be all the way done, unless I convince my family that Naked is the new black. And I don't think my neighbours would approve. But I don't have a mountain anymore, I have laundry that actually fits in the hampers designed to contain it. That in itself is an accomplishment, let me tell you.

Well Princess Mag-pie is crying for more attention, I haven't been holding for a whole 5 1/2 seconds and you know that's not allowed, right? So I am going to go pour myself a cup of coffee, put something interesting on television and cuddle my baby. Its a tough job but someone has to do it and she insists its me. (don't tell my husband but I am secretly kind of glad I get to soak up all these cuddles.)

Still sick

This is crazy. Doesn't my body know that mom is not allowed to be sick? I mean I have lunches to make, dishes to do, a baby to cuddle, laundry to do, a baby to bath and dress, suppers and breakfast to take care of, a baby to feed, I got things to do. And surprisingly, they won't wait because mommy feels like she has been dragged behind a car.

My ears are clogged, my joints hurt, my sinuses are terrible, and I am running a fever. But I have done dishes and laundry today. (I did go back to bed for a nap after Princess Belle went to school).
