SHE'S COMING, SHE'S COMING, SHE'S COMING, SHE'LL SOON BE HERE!!

Notsosnowwhite is coming to town. I am like a little girl at Christmas awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus. I have really been longing for a couple of days with my friend. It is funny because we don't do anything spectacular most of the time, we sit and drink coffee and chat, we laugh at our favorite shows and obsess over who we think should win or lose, we talk about life, work, kids, everything. We have nothing in common at the surface. She is a single working woman with a roommate whom she loves but drives her crazy and I am a stay-at-home mom and wife. But what we do have in common is our personalities. She is who I would be if I were a single working woman. We both have weight struggles, we both like and dislike a lot of the same things. We both love my daughter more than life itself and we would both walk on hot coals to help each other or Prince Charming. She is the sister my mother never gave birth too. And today . . . she is coming to town for at least four days. I am thrilled beyond thrilled.

I don't make friends easy. I tend to be afraid to impose my presence on people and I withdraw into my house and into my life. I was so lucky when I met her 5 years ago and we became so close. The only other friend I have made in the last 5 years in my next door neighbour with whom I have so much in common. She is awesome, sweet and she and her husband are some of the nicest, sweetest, coolest people I have met in a lot of years. They are the first neighbours I have known by name in 4 years. She has a son my age and the cutest little two year old I have EVER SEEN! And the older sister loves my little princess. The three kids play in the yard all the time and I love to see them running and laughing and playing together.

On another topic, the title of this post reminds me of a television show I used to watch years ago, "Full House". The little girl Michele was always doing the most adorable things but there are two scenes which I always remember. One is where the two older girls are up in their father's bedroom and they are trying to hide something they have done. They have little Michele standing guard while they survey the damage and try to come up with a solution. She is not to let him come up to the room. Well dad comes home and he is suspicious. Little Michele tries to block the stairs but she is too little and he just picks her up and carries her as he stalks up the stairs. All the way up the stairs she is hollering a warning at the top of her lungs, "He's coming! He's coming! He's coming! . . . . He's Here!" With her little voice and the way she talked it was the cutest thing I have ever heard.

The other scene I love has little Michele sitting in the living room putting change in her piggy bank. Just as she gets it all in the bank, she hears the ice cream truck going by. She starts shaking her piggy bank upside down with all her mite (shaking her whole body in the process) and she is yelling, "Give me back my money!" Just the image of her little body shaking, her little head bobbing up and down, and her moving more than the piggy bank is sooo cute.

Anyway that is my walk down memory lane for today. To summarize, I am a sap for cute kids, I love my two friends and NOTSOSNOWWHITE is COMING TO TOWN!!!!

Little Things

My little Princess got up just before her alarm clock today. My life is always easier when she does that. She is always just a little happier and a little more content if I haven't had to wake her from a deep sleep.

The night before last someone from our tenants association on this street, knocked on my door. She was running for chair and wanted my vote. I spoke to her about the whole thing and who was running for the other positions and it was suggested that maybe I should run for Treasurer as I used to do accounting for a living and it was definitely within my capability. As well, I have wanted to be a part of the community as I really like it here and this was a way for me to do that. So I ran. The vote was tonight and I lost to a much loved, hard working, 20 year veteran of the community. Once I heard she was running (while I was sitting there waiting for the vote) I knew I lost. I was lead to believe that no one else was running. I really wasn't that dissappointed as it sounded like a very complicated job with a lot of responsibilities, taking full advantage of all my accounting history. I think it may have been more than I was really willing to bit off anyway.

How cute is this? I am on the computer and my little princess comes running in, "Mommy! Poppy wants to speak to you!" confused as I hadn't heard the phone, I asked, "Where?" and she answers, "On the phone." and she hands me the phone. I pick it up and there is a dial tone. Apparently she wanted to speak to her grandfather! How cute is that!! I got her to come over while I called him, but he wasn't home. So she left him a message.

Mother in Law

My mother-in-law came to visit. She is the very opposite of every mother-in-law you hear about in song and movies. She is wonderful. It was so nice to visit with her again. We shared pics and stories. We cried over scrapbook pages I had created. It was a nice bonding time together. I wish we could have spent more time together but that was not to be this visit.

My little princess is off to day care today. I am so proud of how she is doing. She loves it and is mostly very well behaved there. I worry sometimes that she is going to misbehave while there but so far there hasn't been much negative feed-back. She is so funny when she gets off the bus, she sees me and yells, "MOMMY!" and then once she is in my arms, it is confession time, "Mommy I was a bad girl today. I went past the purple post." or "Mommy, I was a good girl today! But I didn't eat my soup." She has no guile at all. She tells me everything. Can I just bottle that instinct until she is a teenage and tells me nothing.

What is it about some families that makes it so hard for them all to get along. I know that my husbands family loves each other. I know that deep down they really do want the best for each other. But whenever they all are in the same city at the same time, drama ensues. It makes me sad. In the end everyone gets dragged into it, everyone gets upset and even the innocent are left feeling guilty. I hate that. I hate feeling like I have to choose sides. I hate that my favorite people (my wonderful mother-in-law and my favorite uncle-in-law) are on opposites sides. I love them both dearly with all my heart. I am so grateful that they have made me a part of their family. I thank god every day that he led me to my wonderful prince charming, his mother and his uncle. I just wish everyone in his family would learn to let the past be the past and to move forward.

I guess in some ways I could listen to my own advice. I should learn to forgive his aunt for the drama she caused when I had my daughter. I should learn to forgive her for telling terrible stories about what a bad mother I was, I could learn to forgive her for threatening us, I could learn to forgive her for causing a rift between my mother and my father-in-law. I am still working on those forgiving feelings. If she could stop causing drama, I could see me eventually letting my mother-bear protectiveness go enough to forgive her the past and move on. But it just feels like when I try some new drame errupts and all the old stuff comes up.

Maybe that is the way it is for the rest of his family too. They want to forgive but new drama's bring up old pains. I have no great epiphany, no words of wisdom to make it better. I just have a lot of love that I would really like to share with them all. But I fear that I may never be able too.

ugh sick

I am feeling pretty miserable today. Running a fever and feeling yucky. Not going to say much other than thank goodness I have a good girl who helps me out and doesn't give me a hard time when I am lying down on the couch.

Friday Feast One Hundred & Eight

Feast One Hundred & Eight
Questions for are here if you want to join in the fun….

Appetizer: If you could have a free subscription to any magazine, which one would you like to have?
I was given a free subscription to Todays Parent. Which I love. So I guess if I could have another one it would be either Canadian Living (I love the recipes and the way it relates to me) or Good Housekeeping.
Soup: Describe your living room (furnishings, colors, etc.).
My living room is in no way the way I want it to be. The couch is on the agenda to be replaced. It is brown striped, old and uncomfortable, my walls are green as are my curtains. My entertainment center looks really nice with the bookshelf on one side. I am getting another shelf to put on the other side to house my many many movies.
Salad: What does the shape of a circle make you think of?
Drawing, art, and faces. I used to draw a lot and I really enjoyed it.
Main Course: Name 3 things in your life that you consider to be absolute necessities.
Coffee, music, my computer. (Since you said things and not family that is what popped into my head)
Dessert: What was the last really funny movie you watched?
Hhhmmmm . . . I am trying to think. Prince Charming mostly rents scary action type things. I guess he rented Band Camp and we both got a big kick out of that movie.

Thursday Thirteen--Places I have lived

Thirteen Places TC has lived
  1. Toronto, Canada--I lived there twice. My sister and brother were both born there.
  2. Brampton, Ontario--I was born here.
  3. Vanastra, Ontario--I lived there for several years. It is a small town made from an old air force base. It was a fun place to be as a kid. We had lots of freedom to run around and play.
  4. Thompson, Manitoba--I lived there three times. The shortest time we lived there, my father moved us there from Ontario and he was working in a small town two hours away. We rented an apartment, moved in, went to school and then two weeks later, he moved us to the town he was working in.
  5. Snow Lake, Manitoba--Beautiful little town. This is where we moved after our two weeks in Manitoba. After this we moved back to Thompson again for about a year.
  6. Norris Point, Newfoundland--While we were living in Thompson, my mother developed a serious heart condition. After several major heart attacks she thought she was going to die and wanted to move home to die. So we moved to Newfoundland.
  7. Corner Brook, Newfoundland--I lived here twice. First with two roommates before moving away for work. Second, I moved here with my brother to continue my education at the age of 27 years old.
  8. Deer Lake, Newfoundland--First place I ever lived completely alone. Very nice place, my only reason for moving is to go back to school after discovering it is way to0 hard to support yourself at a minimum wage job. One of the famous sights as you drive into town is a big moose outside a restaurant.
  9. Sydney, Nova Scotia--Lived here for several months with my brother before I got work and moved away.
  10. Halifax, Nova Scotia--Lived here twice. Love Halifax, the only problem I really have is that all my family is so far away when I live there.
  11. St. John's, Newfoundland--Love St. John's. Lived there twice. My daughter was born in St. John's and it is where I currently live.
  12. Gander, Newfoundland--Beautiful little town. My best friend still lives there. Left because of lack of work.
  13. Jefferies, Newfoundland--Beautiful fishing town where my MIL lives. Also known as the "Ass End Of Nowhere". I loved it there. I moved because of the inconvenience of everything being so far away, the lack of work and for Prince Charming to finish his education.

Sleeping Beauty

I don't know what Day care does to Little Princess but every day when she comes home, I find her like this within a couple of hours.

Now she hasn't been taking naps for months but since Day Care? . . . . an awful lot of days, I am in the kitchen cleaning or in the basement sorting laundry when I hear the sounds of silence from the rest of my house. Now any of you with kids under a certain age will know that the sounds of silence are rare and are usually relegated to those times that she is not home, sleeping, or doing something she shouldn't be doing. But when I walk up the stairs, this sight awaits me.

Now, I have to say that I have been lucky enough to have had Little Princess with me for 4 1/2 years. She is always the light of my life, but the sight of her sleeping always melts my heart. Does that feeling ever go away? Will I ever stop scrambling for the camera when I catch her unawares sleeping like she did not so many years ago?

She loves Day Care and when I go to get her off the bus, I hear her yell, "MOMMY!!" and then she tells me if she was good or bad, what new thing Jase said that he shouldn't have, and if she ate her lunch. I love those moments. I love that when she sees me it is confession time and she spills the beans about everything that she has done wrong. I love that today, when I got her, she proudly announced, "Mommy, today I didn't go past the purple post. Today I was a good girl. But I didn't eat my peach." She went into the house, turned her nose up at lunch and had water and a granola bar instead and then sat down on the couch. Then she curls up like this, ready to drop off to the land of nod. Can a mommy's heart be any more full?

I'm a Mean Mom, are you?

Mean Moms

Someday when my children are old enough tounderstand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me: I loved you enough . to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough . . . to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said wewould be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.
She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else coulddate when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing othersproperty or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be meanparents just like Mom was.

I think that is what's wrong with the world today. It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

PASS THIS ON TO ALL THE MEAN MOTHERS YOU KNOW.(And Their Kids!!!)

This and That

Not a lot going on at our house today. My little Princess is off to day care, Prince Charming is sleeping and I am heading out to get some me time at the gym. My bed was calling out to me but I ignored it's call and I am going to go to the gym. I know I will enjoy it.

My little Princess didn't want to get up today, I had to drag her out of bed and she just kept saying, "But I'm tired!" So I guess her bed was calling out to her too. But she was happy when she left to go to day care so that is all that is important.

We are now the proud owners of a completely fenced in backyard! I am thrilled. That means that I can let her go out to play with the neighbour kids and not worry about her. That means I can get her swings and stuff and not worry about neighbourhood kids destroying it.

I watched Big Brother and I was completely heartbroken that Howie left. He was sweet and offered no real threat to anyone. I find it sad that they didn't even tape any goodbye messages for him. It made no sense to me for his friend to put him on the block but I am glad that when Julie asked him about it, he didn't come out against George. Howie is sweet and I hope he is having fun relaxing in sequester.

My Creative Little Princess

There are times, when my little princess surprises me. She comes out with something that completely surprises me in her creativity. This is an example:

She was in our basement playing with the boxes and she created a box train and when I asked her about it, she said, "Mommy, this is a box train. I can ride it." I love that she came up with that.

Here is another:

She sits on the floor in the basement next to her father and plays with the broken computer. Notice, there is nothing on the screen. It is just her pretending to be "playing the computer" with daddy.

Or she just dances around pretending to be a star blowing me kisses while she dancing. She really does keep me guessing.

Taking the thing I use to put nail polish on my toes and pretending she is brushing her hair with it.

And after me following her around taking a pic of every funny thing she does, a pic of her laughing and telling me, "no more pictures mommy!"

Something about Saturday

We cheated on our anniversary dinner, rather than have anyone babysit, we ordered in and spent the evening together watching television and cuddling on the couch. It was nice and I didn't even go over my points in my order. I love how supportive he is of me trying to find things I can order. I love how he tries to find things with me, how he helps me calculate points. I love the way it feels when he wraps his arms around me at night. I love how hard he makes it to get out of bed in the morning.

I went shopping for the little princess. I bought her pants and tops and her favorite purchase of all sparkly new shoes. It is the first time she picked out her own shoes and she wanted to wear all her new things around the house after. She is sooo adorable sometimes. I was thrilled to find pants that actually fit her. This is a coup all in itself. She is so tall and slender (my little supermodel) that clothes aren't made to fit her body type. I am so excited to have clothes to fit her.

I am going to the gym today to arrange my membership. I am so excited to be doing this for myself. I am getting a membership and a bus pass so there will be nothing to stop me from going. And the gym is open when my Little Princess leaves for Daycare so I could even head out early in the day.

Friday Five

Five things I love about this Friday:
  1. I get to go shopping for my little princess and find clothes that fit her tiny little belly.
  2. I get to finally go out and pay for my gym membership.
  3. If the little princess lets me, I get to sleep in tomorrow morning! Woohoo! Okay so that is about tomorrow, but I am excited about it today.
  4. I get to give Prince Charming some money to spend however he wants. He never gets to do that, so I am thrilled to do that for him.
  5. I get to go out for our anniversary dinner this weekend.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about TC
  1. I watched "So You Think You Can Dance" last night and I am thrilled with the winner! While all of the finalists are awesome, I have always loved his dancing. I just found him so entertaining to watch.
  2. I started watching after this season started and got hooked.
  3. I went through my pile of clothes that my Little Princess is too skinny for and she finally got enough of a belly to hold up some of her pants. I was thrilled.
  4. As she was trying them on, she kept saying, "These ones will fit me mommy." and I kept telling her, "They may not baby but that is okay, you are growing into such a big girl you will fit into them all soon."
  5. I am paranoid about making her feel bad about how small she is.
  6. As long as she is a healthy weight, I think she is beautiful.
  7. I am the most content with my life I have ever been. It feels nice not to be wishing for something to change.
  8. Well I guess winning a lottery would be nice, but failing getting suddenly rich, life is good right now.
  9. I have been watching the "Lord of The Rings" movies with Prince Charming. It is fun to watch them again.
  10. I have the special edition with all the special features. But, by the time we watch all the movies, we are finished with the movies and although we have had them all for over a year, we have yet to watch the special features.
  11. I love Dvd's because I love the special features.
  12. I have three copies of my favorite movie, the original, the digitally remastered and widescreen, but I don't have it on dvd yet. My favorite movie is Grease, followed closely by Dirty Dancing.
  13. Me watching Dirty Dancing, guarrentees, I will make Prince Charming a very happy man later. :-)
